Summer has taken its time to get to Adelaide, but after teasing us with occasional stormy weather and cold spells, it looks like the warmer days are finally here and ready to stay for a lot longer than just 24 hours.
When you think of summer, you think of bright colors, and the summer menu at The Maid Hotel has incorporated that key element into their dishes. Rolling out what they have aptly advertised as “Maid For Summer”, we were one of the first people who had the opportunity to sample some items from the summer menu that has been designed by young chef Sam Spiniello.
Imagine lots of fresh, thin slices of meat such as kangaroo and salmon (cured in Hendricks Gin). Think of edible flowers decorating your plate. What about tarts with salted caramel oozing out of it? How about some pork belly with the perfect crackling on top? There are an array of options with exotic meats and their raw colors that have stood out as the characteristics of the summer menu at The Maid. We would like to think that chef Spiniello is channelling a certain form of personality through each of his dishes. Taking pride in using local, SA-based produce in his dishes, the summer menu has found the balance between fun and fancy.
Chef Spiniello has had a successful career in the culinary industry, where he has worked alongside esteemed chefs such as Greg Fox and UK’s Jamie Pavley. So, it’s unsurprising but delightful to see the influences of his mentors in his work, which is apparent through the combination of presentation and taste in its finest form.
Now that summer is here, there’s no better way to enjoy and get the full experience of the spacious beer garden at The Maid than with some delicious cocktails. Lead Mixologist Matt Holding has taken inspiration from Chef Spiniello’s ways of bringing in freshness and flavour to his creations by coming up with four very intoxicating summer cocktails and they are just as tasty as they look. There are Gin-based cocktails – The Red Lady and Basil Smash, and for the coffeeholics – The Lattini, and for those who crave desserts – The Lemon Splice, which is basically like cheesecake in your mouth.
The Maid is located just minutes away from the city centre – so take a stroll through the luscious green trees as you make your way to this small but versatile Hotel, where you can bask in all the sunshine in their beer garden, sip on some seriously delicious cocktails, and devour some fantastic dishes that have been prepared by Spiniello and his team of culinary experts.
